Ep. 315: Switch the Pitch -- "Where the Wild Things Are" (2009) / "Hunt for the Wilderpeople" (2016)
The "Dirty Sons of Pitches" are combining two movies about kids growing up, the first the 2009 "Where the Wild Things Are" movie that was met with much consternation from studio execs who didn't get it (were they right?) and the 2016 "Hunt for the Wilderpeople," the comedy written and directed by Taika Watiti before helming "Thor: Ragnarok." The guys will pitch a new kids' movies taking themes and ideas from both. Available on Apple ans Spotify Episode 315 includes: -The new "Dune" trailer looks fancy and dusty. -Does the big "Black Widow" drop mean anything? Maybe that COVID is still a thing and not everyone wants to go back to the theaters? -"Gunpowder Milkshake" is empty calories of style. -"Space Jam: A New Legacy" feels like a WB catalogue that incensed Ben for its shameless cynicism. -Switch the Pitch -- "Where the Wild Things Are" / "Hunt for the Wilderpeople" -The guys discuss the curious and disconnected 2009 downer by director Spike Jonze and the 2016 whimsical and heartfelt movie by Taika Watiti before combining them into a brand-new pitch for a new movie.

In part one of the latest from the "Dirty Sons of Pitches," the guys are covering movies they've watched this week including the first Marvel movie in two years, "Black Widow." They also assess the completion of the "Loki" TV show, with spoilers, and then have much to discuss with trying to make sense of the frustrating Christmas TV movie, "A Christmas Movie Christmas." Stay tuned for the next episode where the guys pitch a brand-new movie based upon combining "Coraline" and "A Christmas Movie Christmas." Available on Apple and Spotify Episode 313 includes: -Trailer responses to new Disney animated features, "Encanto" and "Turning Red." -The latest MCU show is over and the guys sing the praises of "Loki" and what it means for the future. -"Black Widow" is a Marvel movie where the dramatic interactions are even better than the action spectacle. -The "UpTV original" movie, "A Christmas Movie Christmas" is a bland and starkly un-imaginative Christmas movie and Ben finds it all to be torture. -"Coraline" might not be as good as you remember, with too much filler and mechanics, but it's still a fun.

The "Dirty Sons of Pitches" are once again using their skills to pitch out a brand new movie based upon two pre-existing films, this week with 1995's Coolio-tastic "Dangerous Minds," where teachers adopt leather jackets to be cool and tough, and 2007's "Death Sentence" where we watch Kevin Bacon stumble his way through bloody vigilante vengeance. Available on Apple and Spotify Episode 312 includes: -R.I.P. Richard Donner. Thanks for the memories. -The guys discuss the legacy of "The Sopranos" in the lead up to the prequel movie. -Amazon's costly "The Tomorrow War" could have been a better series than an extra long action movie. -Ben sings the praises of the Purge franchise and the catharsis of "The Forever Purge." -Switch the Pitch -- "Dangerous Minds" / "Death Sentence" -The guys pitch a brand-new teacher-based thriller combining elements from 1996's inspirational melodrama "Dangerous Minds" and 2007's gritty vigilante thriller, "Death Sentence."

The "Dirty Sons of Pitches" are getting medieval this week by exploring two fantasy movies, 1996's buddy film "Dragonheart," and Robert Zemeckis' second mo-cap epic, 2007's "Beowulf." the guys will once again pitch a brand-new three-act structure combining key elements from both movies. Available on Apple and Spotify Episode 311 includes: -Me Too news: Josh Duggar, Kyle Massey, and breaking news, Bill Cosby released from prison. Ugh. -"Clifford the Big Red Dog" is coming to horrify us all. -Nate has finally found an Ohio-made indie deserving of an F grade. -Ben declares "Fast and Furious 9" to be anything but "F9." -Switch the Pitch -- "Dragonheart" / "Beowulf" -The guys talk about the simple pleasures of 1996's fantasy romp "Dragonheart" and the added complexity of the 2007 "Bewoulf" CGI movie before combining both movies into a brand-new pitch to play out via dice game.
