The "Dirty Sons of Pitches" are looking at the four films from Alex Garland, notable genre screenwriter who began his directing career with 2015's Oscar-winning "Ex Machine," and followed it up with disorienting and challenging movies like "Anihilation" and "Men," both of which didn't quite work for the gents. They also use the occasion as an excuse to talk about Garland's latest directing effort, A24's "Civil War," supposedly following journalists treading through the terror of the United States at war with itself.

The "Dirty Sons of Pitches" are looking at the films of the man who set the bar for modern fantasy epics, Peter Jackson. Ben and Nate look at his early splatterhouse horror, the best and worst films of his prolific career, how underappreciated 1996's "The Frighteners" is, the impact and risk of the original "Lord of the Rings" trilogy and the excess of the "Hobbit" films, and where the guys might like to see Jackson go next. It's been over a year since the "Dirty Sons of Pitches" unveiled a new edition of their Director's Cut podcast subset, and so with the release of "Independence Day 2," the guys are looking at the career of the master of disaster himself, Roland Emmerich. The latest retrospective on the Mexican director who has redfined our thoughts on big-screen creepy crawlies. Guillermo del Toro is a man who likes things squishy and deals with plenty of horror and fantasy imagery. And so the "Dirty Sons of Pitches" discuss the man's career, their favorite and least favorite films of his, what they'd like to see him do next, as well as his involvement in the "Hobbit" trilogy.

This week, in lieu of a new episode, Nate and Ben talk about one of the most critically acclaimed directors of all time, Stan The Man Kubrick. Was he the genius he's crackec up to be, or just an overrated hack? Ben uses the opportunity to release some long pent up rage against The Shining, while Nate reserves his outrage for the Kubrick film that might have been: A.I. In our first posthumous DC, we wrap up by discussing what we would have liked to see if Kubrick could make one last movie.

The "Dirty Sons of Pitches" are making due for a grave omission in their podcast sub-series looking at the works of a single director. Arguably the most popular director of his generation, Steven Spielberg's films are discussed as a whole, his penchant for sentimentality, his bold imaginations, and the guys favorite and least favorite films. They discuss changes over his career, including E.T.'s walky talky controversy, resonating themes, and where Spielberg stands today. 

The "Dirty Sons of Pitches" are back with another in depth analysis of a director, this time "Man of Steel" and "300" director Zack Snyder. The guys take turns sharing their favorite and least favorite Snyder movies, talk about the visual hallmarks of Snyder's style, question his connection to material as well as his use of onscreen violence, and then kick around ideas they'd like to see Snyder tackle next. Note: this was recorded before the news of a "Batman vs. Superman" sequel to "Man of Steel," though some of us already predicted something similar.
